Whenever a report is generated in the system, an entry is created in the user reports database showing time and date of creation, report title, and usually some supporting information on report content.
The system will maintain up to 25 reports at any time, and the user should delete unwanted/obsolete reports as soon as they are no longer required.
On entering the Reports Module, a list of available reports in time/date sequence (latest first) is presented from which the user can choose one or more.
One of four buttons may be clicked, the Exit button causing the system to return to the screen from which the reporting module was invoked.
The Delete button causes all selected reports to be deleted and the shortened list to be displayed.
The remaining two buttons cause the selected report(s) to be displayed on the screen in a "download" format, presented to the browser as having a file name suffix of ".rim", with MIME-type "application/rimsco-print-file".
The user should make an additional entry to the general "File-Types" database for this MIME-type so that it can be processed for printing. This may be done via the Microsoft Windows Explorer route on Windows98 or via the browser on earlier operating systems.
Windows Explorer:- View;FolderOptions;FileTypes;NewType and enter the action as "open". The "helper" application should be a suitable editor with good printing facilities. The freeware system "Programmers File Editor" or Pfe or Pfe32 is particularly suitable, and it is available as a download at many Internet sites, e.g. Netscape.com (a zip of Pfe may be present on this server for your convenience). The "action" box for the MIME-type should be entered as
C:\Pfe\PFE32.EXE /p "%1" (for immediate print of file and close)
if Pfe32 is copied to the user PC in directory c:\Pfe
After examining the contents of the report(s) as shown in browser-format on the download screen, the user can import the report(s) in text format into an editor for modification and printing. On clicking "Download" at the top or bottom of the download screen, provided the MIME-type has been correctly set-up, the editor (Pfe, for example) should appear with the report(s) opened. (If the user has entered the /p option on the action line for Pfe the report(s) will simply print on the default printer using Font/Paper parameters pre-set in Pfe - see the Pfe Readme files).
By selecting GO-BACK on the browser, the user will return to the Report module screen (or the screen from which the report module was invoked, depending on browser parameters). If the button clicked in the Report module was SELECT-DELETE the reports selected will have been deleted at this stage.
There may be further options available on the Report module screen, for example a "Lines per Page" option.
Normally, reports are produced with a default number of lines per page, say 50. This default value may be changed to a number (40-90) by entering it in this option. It will only be applied to reports subsequently generated, and will have no effect on existing reports in the list.
Other options present on the screen are currently ineffective, including any report formatting directives. For the time being, all reports are in text format pending decisions on future developments of XML, etc.
